Clear Channel?s Internet radio service is getting more local. An agreement announced Tuesday will add to the iHeartRadio platform 86 radio stations from Cox Media Group and another 20 from Emmis Communications. The stations will promote iHeartRadio on-air and both companies will continue to stream the stations? broadcasts on their respective web sites and mobile apps.

The deal puts three of the top 20 Internet radio broadcasters in the same platform. iHeartRadio is the second Internet radio service in the U.S. behind Pandora, according to Triton Digital measurements for April 2012. Cox Media Group?s radio stations ranked #7 and Emmis Communications? stations ranked #14.

iHeartRadio is a hybrid Internet radio platform that offers both personalized radio ? a la Pandora ? and online streams of terrestrial broadcasts. Clear Channel has always considered personalized Internet radio to be a feature rather than a business. The addition of Cox Media Group and Emmis Communications stations underscores its belief that consumers will continue to desire streams of live and local radio stations in an age of infinite choice.

Cox Media Group, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises, has 67 FM stations and 13 AM stations in Houston, Atlanta, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa-St. Petersburg, San Antonio, Jacksonville and many other markets. Emmis Communications has multiple radio stations in Austin, St. Louis and Indianapolis as well as hip-hop powerhouses Hot 97 in New York and Power 106 in Los Angeles.
